A 20-year-old man, Pascal Ogbogu, has allegedly killed his 56-year-old father with a machete in Abatete, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra.
The police spokesperson in the state, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday.
Ikenga said the suspect allegedly attacked his father on Tuesday evening and fled the scene.
He said police operatives from Eziowelle Police Division, assisted by family members and members of the Abatete Vigilante, later found the victim’s lifeless body in a room with a deep machete wound to the throat.
“The body was subsequently evacuated to the mortuary for preservation and autopsy,” he said.
According to him, the suspect was apprehended in the early hours of Wednesday through the coordinated efforts of the police, vigilante members and community members.
Ikenga said the Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Ama, commended the community members and security personnel for their prompt response and cooperation.
He added that the commissioner had directed the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
“The commissioner assured the family and members of the public that the investigation will be conducted professionally, thoroughly and diligently, in accordance with the law,” Ikenga said.
