The Kano State Government has declared Tuesday, September 1, 2026, a work-free day to enable residents observe Takutaha, an annual traditional occasion celebrated across the state.
The declaration was contained in Circular No. 7/2026 signed by the Permanent Secretary, Establishment, Abba Danguguwa, on behalf of the Head of Service.
According to the circular, the work-free day coincides with 19th Rabi’ul Awwal, 1448 AH, and was approved by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
The government described Takutaha as an occasion of significant cultural importance to the people of Kano and part of the state’s Islamic heritage.
It urged residents to use the occasion for prayers and supplications for continued peace, unity, stability and prosperity in Kano State and Nigeria.
The government also called on residents to celebrate peacefully, strengthen communal bonds and promote peaceful coexistence.
It directed heads of ministries, departments and agencies to ensure strict compliance with the directive.
However, the government said essential services would continue to operate in line with established procedures to ensure uninterrupted delivery of critical public services.
