President Bola Tinubu has described the Hausa people as “great pillars” who play a vital role in the unity and progress of Nigeria.
Tinubu stated this in a message posted on his official X handle on Wednesday to commemorate Hausa Day, which is being celebrated at the historic Daura Palace.
He said the Hausa language had flourished and become a major language of unity and commerce across the world.
“The Hausa people are great pillars who play a vital role in the unity and progress of Nigeria.
“The Hausa language, without doubt, has flourished and has become a major language of unity and commerce across the world,” he said.
The President congratulated the Hausa community on the occasion, noting that the celebration at Daura Palace underscored the cultural significance of the Hausa people.
“I congratulate the vast Hausa community on the occasion of Hausa Day, which is being celebrated at the historic Daura Palace today,” he said.
Hausa Day, also known as World Hausa Day or Ranar Hausa, is observed annually on Aug. 26 to promote the Hausa language and celebrate its cultural heritage.
The initiative was started on social media by Nigerian journalist Abdulbaki Aliyu Jari to promote the use of Hausa online and raise awareness of its cultural significance.
The observance has since grown into international celebrations across Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the Americas, although it has not received formal recognition from the United Nations.
Hausa is one of the major languages spoken in Nigeria and is among the most widely spoken languages in Africa.
It is also ranked among the world’s major languages by number of speakers.
