Former Cross River Governor and presidential candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Donald Duke, says President Bola Tinubu does not deserve another four-year term, citing poor governance and worsening economic hardship.
Duke stated this on Monday while speaking on Channels Television’s *Politics Today*, where he assessed Tinubu’s political standing ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
He disagreed with the suggestion that Tinubu was politically stronger than he was in 2023, saying the President’s performance had eroded the goodwill he enjoyed during the election.
“I don’t think so. I think his governance has exposed the weakness of the contraption called Nigeria. I don’t think he has the sympathies he had in 2023,” Duke said.
He said the economic hardship in the country had increased disillusionment among Nigerians.
“Things have gone harder for people; a lot of people are disillusioned by his style of governance. Hope has turned into despair,” he said.
Duke acknowledged Tinubu’s political experience but said his major concern was governance.
“Give it to him, he is a formidable politician. My issue with him is governance, not politics,” he said.
The former governor described the Tinubu administration as weak in governance and argued that Nigerians would be more concerned about their economic survival during the 2027 election.
“Yes, you talk about structures and all that, but I think on election day they will be fighting for their own survival,” he said.
Duke said he would offer Nigerians an alternative approach to governance if elected president in 2027.
