The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast cloudy skies, thunderstorms and rains across parts of the country from Wednesday to Friday.
NiMet, in its weather outlook issued in Abuja on Tuesday, predicted patches of clouds over the northern region on Wednesday, with morning thunderstorms and light rains over parts of Taraba and Kebbi.
It also forecast moderate rains over parts of Taraba, Borno, Yobe, Bauchi, Sokoto, Katsina, Zamfara, Jigawa, Kano and Kaduna later in the day.
For the North-Central region, the agency predicted morning thunderstorms and light rains over parts of Nasarawa, Niger, Benue and the Federal Capital Territory, followed by moderate rains in most areas later in the day.
It forecast cloudy conditions and morning rains over parts of several southern states, with moderate rains expected across most parts of the region later.
For Thursday, NiMet predicted thunderstorms and light to moderate rains across parts of the northern and North-Central regions, while most parts of the South are expected to experience rains.
It also warned of a high possibility of flooding in parts of Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Akwa Ibom and Cross River states.
On Friday, thunderstorms with moderate rains are expected over parts of the North, including Kano, Jigawa, Bauchi, Borno, Yobe, Gombe, Adamawa and Taraba, as well as most parts of the North-Central region.
NiMet also forecast moderate rains over parts of the southern region.
The agency warned that strong winds could precede thunderstorms and advised the public to take precautions.
“Driving under heavy rain should be avoided. Disconnect electrical appliances from electrical sockets,” it said.
It also advised residents to stay away from tall trees and urged states at risk of flash floods to activate their emergency response systems.
NiMet further advised airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports for effective flight planning and urged residents to stay informed through its weather updates.
