Former Kano State Governor, Ibrahim Shekarau, and former Defence Minister, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, are set to lead a northern coalition mobilising support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in the 2027 presidential election.
The coalition, under the platform Arewa for Asiwaju (A4A), comprises former governors, serving and former senators, and other political leaders from the 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory.
A statement by the Head of Media Relations of A4A, Edwin Olofu, on Monday, said the platform would soon be formally unveiled in Abuja.
It said Shekarau would serve as Chairman of the 14-member Board of Trustees, while Badaru would serve as Secretary and Director-General of the National Directorate.
Former Yobe Governor and Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Geidam, and former Plateau Governor, Simon Lalong, will serve as Deputy Chairmen of the board.
The coalition will have national, zonal and state structures, with Badaru coordinating its activities across the North and the FCT.
He will be assisted by Ibrahim Shema, Yahaya Bello and Abdulrazaq Namdas as Deputy National Coordinators for the North-West, North-Central and North-East, respectively.
The statement also announced coordinators for the 19 northern states and the FCT, including Abdullahi T. Gwarzo for Kano, Aminu Sani Gumel for Jigawa, Ahmed Maiyaki for Kaduna, Nura Manu Soro for Bauchi and Shitu Mohammed Kabir for the FCT.
The platform will have directorates responsible for mobilisation, media and communications, youth affairs, women’s mobilisation, finance, operations, research and strategy, ICT, civil society, religious communities and other areas.
The coalition is expected to unveil the platform in Abuja in the coming days, followed by the inauguration of its zonal and state structures.
