Kannywood actor Rabi’u Daushe, popularly known as Daushe Mai Dabaibayi, has reflected on the enduring influence of his late mentor, Rabilu Musa Ibro, on his career and personal growth.
In an interview with Daily Trust, Daushe shared the challenges of navigating the film industry without Ibro, whom he described as an irreplaceable figure.
He noted, however, that Ibro’s guidance and support continue to shape his journey.
“It’s heartbreaking working in this industry without my mentor,” Daushe said. “Whenever I remember that death is inevitable and every soul will taste it, I pray for his soul. He taught me invaluable lessons during his lifetime. Even though he’s gone, his advice and encouragement inspire me every day. He corrected me when I made mistakes and showed me how to improve.”
Daushe credited the late comedian with discovering his potential and providing him with an opportunity to excel by inviting him to join Hamdala Drama, Ibro’s renowned drama group.
“It’s nearly impossible to find someone who can fill the void Ibro left in this industry,” he said.
Reflecting on Ibro’s mentorship, Daushe emphasized how the values and lessons he learned from the late actor continue to guide his career decisions.
Daushe also shared the heartfelt story behind his well-known line, “Sahura Mai Danwake,” frequently referenced in his performances.
“Sahura was a woman I met in Kwara State. She took care of my team during a difficult period when one of our members was hospitalized. When we expressed our gratitude and asked how we could repay her, she simply asked me to mention her name in a film. Her generosity and humility moved me deeply, and I’ve honored her request ever since,” he recounted.
