Maryam Abacha American University of Niger (MAAUN), Maradi, has matriculated no fewer than 430 students for the 2025/2026 academic session to pursue undergraduate programmes in various fields.
The university, established in 2013 as the first bilingual university in Sub-Saharan Africa, said it has continued to play a key role in the training of undergraduate and postgraduate students in science and humanities, as well as promoting research and innovation across the region.
Speaking at the matriculation ceremony held on Saturday, the Director of the campus, Dr. Shu’aibu Usman-Tanko, urged the newly admitted students to remain disciplined and adhere strictly to the institution’s rules and regulations.
“Matriculation ceremony essentially denotes the formal admission of candidates who are adjudged, academically qualified, emotionally stable, and psychologically ready to cope with the rigorous challenges of academic engagement,” he said.
He warned the students against misconduct, stressing that the institution has zero tolerance for any form of indiscipline.
Dr. Usman-Tanko charged them to remain focused and committed to their studies, saying the university would not hesitate to sanction any behaviour capable of tarnishing its image.
In separate interviews, some of the newly admitted students described MAAUN as a conglomerate of universities known for academic excellence.
“MAAUN has given us the opportunity to grow. As you can see, many MAAUN health science graduates with professional careers are working abroad. The university is breaking barriers and paving the way for a more inclusive and diverse learning environment,” one of the students said.
Meanwhile, the university said its permanent site in Maradi, located at Gwarzo town, Djiratawa Maradi, is currently under construction with N10 billion committed to the project.
MAAUN operates a network of institutions including MAAUN Maradi, MAAUN Kano (Nigeria), Franco-British International University (FBIU), Kaduna, and Canadian University of Nigeria (CUN), Abuja.
