The 2027 governorship election in Gombe State will be decided at polling units and not on social media, the media aide to the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Dr Jamil Gwamna, Ibrahim Shawai, has said.
Shawai stated this in a statement on Friday while highlighting Gwamna’s engagements with communities across the state ahead of the election.
He said although social media had become an important tool for political communication, online popularity should not be mistaken for actual electoral support.
“Elections are not won by the loudest voices online. They are won by the people who actually go to polling units to cast their votes,” he said.
Shawai said Gwamna’s political engagement was focused on grassroots mobilisation across the state, stressing that “likes are not ballots” and social media followers could not replace voters at polling units.
According to him, Gwamna’s relationship with the people of Gombe predates the 2027 election, citing his years in the corporate world, public service, politics and philanthropy.
He said the political discourse should now focus less on introducing Gwamna to voters and more on his plans for the state if elected.
“The more important conversation today is about his vision for the future. It is increasingly less about ‘Who is Jamil Gwamna?’ and more about ‘What does Jamil Gwamna intend to do for Gombe State?’” Shawai said.
He identified employment, agriculture, education, healthcare, investment, technology and improved government efficiency as key issues that should shape the 2027 election debate.
