Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has vowed that his administration will not rest until those responsible for the killing of two Kano youths in Benue State are brought to justice.
The victims, Barhama Suleiman and Jamilu Ahmad—sons of prominent Islamic scholar Sheikh Ibrahim Khalil—were attacked and murdered late Monday night in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.
Reports indicate that they were profiled and assaulted by unidentified assailants around 11:00 p.m.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf described the attack as “brutal and unprovoked.”
“It is with a heavy heart and deep sense of loss that we announce the passing of two promising sons of Kano. They were innocent, peace-loving citizens whose only crime was exercising their constitutional right to live and work in any part of Nigeria,” the governor said.
Condemning the incident, he said: “This barbaric, senseless, and unacceptable act must not go unpunished. This government will not rest until justice is served.”
Governor Yusuf also called for calm and urged citizens to remain peaceful while investigations are underway. “We call for calm and restraint as we work closely with security agencies at all levels and the Benue State Government to bring the murderers to justice,” he added.
Emphasizing the constitutional right of all Nigerians to live freely across the country, he said: “Nigeria belongs to all of us. Every citizen has the right to live, move, and thrive in any part of this country without fear of discrimination or violence.”
The governor also announced he would personally lead a delegation to join the families of the victims at their funeral prayers, scheduled to hold Tuesday at the National Mosque in Abuja.
“The loss is not just a tragedy to the families involved, but to Kano State and the entire nation,” Yusuf said, extending heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and especially to Sheikh Ibrahim Khalil.
