AVM Saddiq Ismaila Kaita, a retired Air Vice Marshal, has assumed office as the new Pro-Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano, succeeding Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna.
Kaita, who chaired his inaugural Council meeting on August 15, 2025 — the Vice-Chancellor’s last — previously served as Director of Strategy at Defence Headquarters and as Chief of Defence Transformation and Innovation in the Nigerian Air Force, earning recognition for advancing training and standardisation.
Kano Times reports that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appointed Air Vice Marshal Saddiq Ismaila Kaita (Rtd.) as the new Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Bayero University, Kano.
The appointment, announced by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President (Information & Strategy), is effective Friday, August 1, 2025, and sees AVM Kaita replacing Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna.
The change was made to allow Dr. Gawuna to concentrate fully on his role as Chairman of the Federal Housing Authority (FHA).
AVM Saddiq Ismaila Kaita retired from the Nigerian Air Force, where he held positions as Director of Strategy and Chief of Defence Transformation and Innovation at Defence Headquarters.
He is recognised for his significant contributions to training and standardisation within the Air Force.
