Party Will Decide on Coalition at NEC – NNPP

The New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, says it will take a final position on forming a coalition or backing President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid at its National Executive Council, NEC, meeting slated for August 28.

National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr Ladipo Johnson, who disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, said the NEC meeting would deliberate on key issues, including upcoming congresses, national convention, review of recent by-elections, and plans for mass mobilisation and membership registration.

He added that the gathering would also discuss the party’s ongoing constitutional review aimed at deepening Nigeria’s democracy.

Johnson explained that ahead of the 2027 general elections, the NNPP was weighing three major options – entering into an alliance or coalition, contesting the polls independently or supporting President Tinubu’s re-election bid.

“Politics is dynamic, but our actions and decisions must be within the context of principles and values,” Johnson said.

He, therefore, urged members to remain calm and united, assuring that the party’s final decision would be guided by national interest.

The spokesman also encouraged members to take part in the ongoing continuous voter registration exercise and prepare for the planned nationwide mobilisation and membership drive.
