Skyline University Nigeria (SUN), Kano, has reaffirmed its commitment to quality education, innovation, and entrepreneurship as it celebrates its 4th Convocation Ceremony, marking eight years of academic excellence and institutional growth.
Speaking during a press briefing ahead of the event, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ajith Kumar V. V., said the university had recorded significant progress since its establishment in 2018, expanding from two faculties to five, with all programmes now fully accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
“This event marks another remarkable milestone in our journey of eight years of academic excellence, innovation, and transformation,” Prof. Kumar stated. “Since its establishment in 2018, Skyline University Nigeria has remained a beacon of quality education, enriching minds, igniting innovation, and shaping the future of young Nigerians.”
The Vice Chancellor announced the establishment of an AI Innovation Lab and HP Gaming Garage, aimed at promoting practical entrepreneurship and digital creativity among students.
“Entrepreneurship remains a cornerstone of our academic philosophy,” he said. “Through our Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, we have established the HP Gaming Garage and AI Innovation Lab to enable students to develop business ideas, innovative solutions, and startups that address real-world challenges.”
Prof. Kumar explained that the institution now comprises five schools — the School of Science and Information Technology (SSIT), School of Arts, Management and Social Sciences (SAMSS), School of Legal Studies (SLS), School of Basic Medical Sciences (SBMS), and the School of Postgraduate Studies (SPGS) — offering undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programmes across various disciplines.
He added that the NUC had approved seven new part-time undergraduate programmes, including International Relations, Economics, Business Administration, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Mass Communication, and Computer Science and Information Systems.
“These programmes are designed to provide flexible learning opportunities for professionals who wish to advance their education while balancing work, family, and personal growth,” he explained.
Highlighting the institution’s growing international collaborations, Prof. Kumar disclosed that SUN recently signed new Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with Keele University in the United Kingdom and Sheridan College in Canada to promote student exchange and academic partnerships.
“These partnerships reaffirm our commitment to global learning and internationalization, ensuring our students gain the cross-cultural exposure needed for global relevance,” he said.
On corporate social responsibility, the Vice Chancellor noted that under the RMK Empowerment Programme, the university had trained 1,000 teachers, 100 women and youths in hospitality, and 50 young entrepreneurs in digital literacy.
“Our CSR initiatives reflect our role as a socially responsible institution. Education must serve not only the students but the society at large,” he stated.
During the 2024–2025 academic year, the university also partnered with the World Bank IDEAS Project to train 1,000 Nigerian youths in ICT, web design, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence.
Prof. Kumar highlighted various student-oriented activities during the year, including the CEO Lecture Series, Career Fair, TEDx Skyline Event, and CV Clinic Sessions, all aimed at improving employability and practical experience.
He expressed pride in students such as Zainab Ahmad Rabiu, who won first place at the TISNI Students Expo, and Fatima Hamzah, who represented the university in the Top Speech and Table Topics Contest.
“Our students’ success stories are testimonies to the quality of our academic training and the holistic education we provide,” he noted.
A total of 223 graduates will receive degrees at the 4th Convocation, comprising 180 bachelor’s and 43 higher degrees. Among them, 24 students earned First Class Honours, 79 Second Class Upper, and 77 Second Class Lower.
Prof. Kumar expressed appreciation to parents, the founder and chairman, Mr. Kamal Puri, the Pro-Chancellor, Mr. Nitin Anand, and the Chancellor for their leadership and support.
“Their collective vision continues to be the cornerstone of our institution’s achievements,” he said. “As we celebrate this convocation, we reaffirm our commitment to quality education, technological innovation, and social transformation — nurturing graduates who will create opportunities and lead change in their communities and beyond.”
