Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on Friday signed a bill establishing Gaya Polytechnic, a move his administration says will expand access to technical and tertiary education across the state.
The decision was announced in a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
According to the statement, the signing took place at the Government House in Kano in the presence of the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Jibril Ismail Falgore, and the Deputy Speaker, Muhammad Bello Butubutu, who jointly presented the bill.
Yusuf, accompanied by the Deputy Governor, said he was pleased with the smooth passage of the legislation and praised the Assembly leadership for their commitment to strengthening the state’s educational sector.
“The establishment of Gaya Polytechnic will create opportunities for young people to acquire practical skills and technical knowledge essential for economic development,” the statement quoted him as saying.
The governor reiterated that his administration remains committed to reviving and expanding education at all levels, describing the new institution as an important step toward improving human capital and empowering youth.
Dawakin Tofa said the polytechnic aligns with the government’s broader plan to make education more accessible and affordable while supporting economic growth across the state’s senatorial zones.
He added that once fully operational, the institution is expected to support job creation, drive innovation, and boost socio-economic development in Gaya and surrounding communities.
