The Governor of Jigawa State, Malam Umar Namadi, has pledged the full support of the state government to the new Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Dutse (FUD), Prof. Ahmad Muhammad Gumel.
Namadi made the pledge during a dinner organised in honour of the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdulkarim Sabo Mohammed, following the assumption of office of Prof. Gumel as the 4th substantive Vice-Chancellor of the institution on Feb. 10.
The governor said Prof. Gumel emerged first among 21 applicants interviewed for the position, expressing confidence in his ability to succeed.
“Insha Allah, I am confident that the new Vice-Chancellor will succeed in his new assignment,” Namadi said.
He congratulated the FUD community on the appointment, describing Prof. Gumel as a man of humility, sincerity and capacity to deliver.
Namadi said he was impressed by Gumel’s work ethics during the acquisition and transition process of Khadija University, recently purchased by the Jigawa State Government.
“I was impressed by his work ethics when he oversaw the acquisition and transition of Khadija University. He has demonstrated competence and commitment,” the governor said.
He assured the new Vice-Chancellor of his continued support, saying, “My doors are always open, and I am ever willing to render assistance to the university at all times.”
Earlier, Namadi congratulated the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdulkarim Sabo Mohammed, on the successful completion of his tenure.
He described Mohammed as hardworking, noting that the expansion of physical infrastructure during his tenure testified to his leadership capacity.
“The government and good people of Jigawa State are proud of his achievements and pray for his success in future endeavours,” the governor said.
In his vote of thanks, Prof. Abdulkarim expressed appreciation to the state government and the people of Jigawa, particularly Gov. Namadi, for the goodwill and support he received during his tenure as the 3rd substantive Vice-Chancellor of FUD.
“The support was crucial to my success as Vice-Chancellor,” he said.
He described Prof. Gumel as “an excellent academician and researcher who has the capacity to build on the successes recorded by my administration.”
