The Kano State Fire Service has disclosed that property worth between ₦700 million and ₦800 million was lost in a fire outbreak at the Dakata Small-Scale Industrial Complex in Kano.
According to the Public Relations Officer of the service, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, the emergency response unit received a distress call from one Mr. Joseph reporting the fire on Friday.
Firefighters from the Service Headquarters, Dakata Fire Station, and Rijiyar Zaki Fire Station were immediately deployed.
“On arrival, crews discovered that the industrial complex, measuring about 300 by 200 feet, had been engulfed in flames,” the statement said.
The complex, popularly known as Fatima Crossion and Recycling, is divided into four sections—Plots A, B, C, and D—and houses around 506 stalls. Approximately 100 stalls were completely destroyed in the inferno.
The fire service said the blaze was reportedly caused by an open flame allegedly lit by children to keep warm. Four fire engines were used to bring the fire under control, preventing it from spreading to other sections of the complex.
The Director of the Kano State Fire Service has urged the public to take preventive measures against fire outbreaks, especially by avoiding the use of open flames in public and industrial areas.
