The immediate past Chairman of Ringim Local Government Area in Jigawa State, Hon. Shehu Sule Udi, has purchased the nomination form to contest for the Ringim and Taura Federal Constituency seat under the platform of the African Democratic Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections.
It was earlier reported that Udi dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress, citing what he described as a deviation from the party’s founding ideals as the reason for his defection.
He later formally declared the ADC as his new political platform for what he described as the next phase of his political journey.
The development signals Udi’s official entry into the race for the Ringim and Taura Federal Constituency seat in the 2027 elections.
Speaking after purchasing the nomination form, Udi said his ambition was driven by a commitment to reposition the constituency for inclusive growth, quality representation and sustainable development.
He pledged to always place the interests of the people above personal considerations and prioritise their welfare if elected.
Udi, a former council chairman with strong grassroots appeal across Ringim and Taura, is widely seen by supporters as a politician with deep connection to the people and a proven record of leadership at the local level.
Political associates say he built a solid political structure during his time in office, with many of his loyal supporters and allies already joining him in the ADC following his defection from the APC.
Supporters also describe him as an accessible and community-oriented leader who maintained close contact with residents during his tenure as chairman, especially in areas of youth empowerment, infrastructure and community development.
He is credited with executing developmental projects and strengthening political participation at the grassroots, qualities his supporters believe distinguish him as a prepared and experienced candidate for the House of Representatives seat.
Observers within the constituency also believe Udi’s growing support base, political experience and organisational strength could make him a strong contender in the 2027 race.
