Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has intervened in the dispute between Honourable Kabiru Alhassan Rurum and Senator Abdurrahman Kawu Sumaila, leading to reconciliation between the two political figures.
This was contained in a press statement issued on Sunday by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mustapha Muhammad.
According to the statement, the governor convened a meeting to resolve the differences between the two political leaders described as major stakeholders in Kano South politics.
Speaking after the meeting, Rurum, the House of Representatives member representing Rano/Bunkure/Kibiya Federal Constituency, confirmed that the dispute had been resolved.
“The dispute has been settled and we have now reunited as one family and will work together more than ever before,” he said.
Rurum also appreciated the governor for facilitating reconciliation, saying, “I thank the governor for his efforts in bringing lasting peace between us.”
On his part, Senator Kawu Sumaila, who represents Kano South Senatorial District, described the disagreement as a misunderstanding.
“The dispute was the handiwork of Satan and we have now forgiven each other and forgotten the differences,” he said.
“We are one family, and what united us is more than politics. We have family ties and other relationships beyond imagination. What happened was misunderstanding and we have resolved the differences and it is indeed the devil’s work,” the senator added.
Also speaking, Kano State APC Chairman, Umar Haruna Doguwa, urged supporters of both leaders to put the crisis behind them and focus on future political victories.
“I would like to thank the Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf for his foresight on quick intervention, this shows that he is really a leader,” Doguwa stated.
The reconciliation meeting was attended by the Deputy Governor of Kano State, Murtala Sule Garo, APC Ex-Officio Alhaji Muhammad Jamu, the state APC chairman, Senator Kawu Sumaila and Honourable Kabiru Alhassan Rurum.
The statement added that both Rurum and Kawu Sumaila invited their supporters to attend the affirmation of Senator Kawu Sumaila as the Kano South senatorial candidate scheduled for Monday, May 18, 2026.
