A four-term member of the House of Representatives from Jigawa State, Hon. Sa’idu Yusuf Miga, has lost the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket to seek re-election ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Kano Times reports that the lawmaker representing Jahun/Miga Federal Constituency was denied the party’s return ticket during the APC primary election held on Saturday.
Miga, regarded as one of the longest-serving federal lawmakers from the state, was first elected into the House of Representatives in 2003 under the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
He later defected to the APC following the 2014 opposition merger that produced the ruling party and was subsequently re-elected in 2015, 2019, and 2023, completing four consecutive terms in the Green Chamber.
However, political observers attribute his defeat to growing dissatisfaction among constituents in Jahun and Miga Local Government Areas over alleged poor representation and limited constituency projects.
In recent months, youth groups and community stakeholders openly criticised the lawmaker’s performance, questioning his legislative contributions since the inauguration of the 10th National Assembly in June 2023.
Earlier this month, a coalition of youths operating under the banner “Jahun Ina Muka Dosa” staged a peaceful protest, urging the APC leadership and the Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, to replace the lawmaker with what they described as a more active representative.
The protesters, led by Shamsu Sulaiman Alafin, Nura Wada, and Comrade Muhammad Khamisu Harbo, alleged that several communities within the constituency still suffer from poor infrastructure, limited employment opportunities, and inadequate development projects despite years of representation.
Following the primary election outcome, the APC produced Hon. Umar Imam as its candidate for the Jahun/Miga Federal Constituency in the 2027 general elections.
Political analysts say the development reflects rising voter expectations and an increasing demand for accountability, performance, and stronger grassroots engagement among elected officials in Jigawa State.
