A Kano State High Court, presided over by Justice Aminu Adamu Aliyu, has ruled against issuing a bench warrant for former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, his wife, and six others in a case of alleged funds diversion.
Justice Aliyu based her decision on the current political tension in the state, expressing concern that some individuals might exploit the court’s actions to incite unrest. Consequently, she struck out the prosecution’s request for a bench warrant against the former governor and his wife.
Despite this, the judge noted that the defendants, who were served through substituted means but refused to appear in court, would be tried in absentia.
The prosecution counsel, led by Adeola Adediyo SAN, had requested the court to issue a bench warrant for Ganduje, his wife, and six others.
