At least nine of the remaining abducted students of the Federal University, Gusau in Zamfara State have reportedly regained freedom.
Zagzola Makama, a Counter-Insurgency Expert and Security Analyst in the Lake Chad region, revealed this information on his verified X handle today, Sunday.
No fewer than 21 students, mostly females, were abducted from their hostels after armed men invaded an off-campus residence in Sabon Gida Village of the state on September 23, 2023.
Speaking to the newsmen, a top leader of the school’s Student Union of Government (SUG) who craved anonymity said, “I heard only nine were rescued, but the school has yet to officially disclose anything.”
The rescued students have reportedly arrived in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), where they are receiving medical treatment in an undisclosed hospital.
The National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, is said to have been directly involved in the negotiation process that resulted in the release.
There is, however, no official statement from the institution, Zamfara State Government, or Nigerian Army as of press time.
