FUD Gets N53m Grant for Banditry, Mosquito Research

The Federal University Dutse (FUD), Jigawa State, has secured two research grants worth N53 million from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) National Research Fund (NRF).

The grants are aimed at developing solutions to insecurity, particularly banditry and kidnapping, as well as controlling the spread of mosquitoes in Nigeria.

The research projects are being led by Prof. Ado Garba Jangargari and Prof. Joshua Balogun.

Jangargari’s project, titled, “Tech for Peace: Engaging Northern Pastoralists’ Non-Agricultural Livelihoods to Counter Banditry and Kidnapping,” received N25 million.

Balogun’s research, titled, “Development of Indoor Carbon Dioxide Sequestration Machine (iCor-SeMa) for Diversionary Control of Mosquitoes in Nigeria,” received N28 million.

According to the university, both research projects will run for 24 months.

The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Ahmad Muhammed Gumel, congratulated the researchers and urged them to ensure that the projects were implemented within the stipulated timeline.

Gumel also expressed optimism that the university would secure more research grants, saying academic staff had been sensitised on how to access the NRF and other funding opportunities locally and internationally.
