The Kano State Government has lifted the curfew imposed on the state following an improvement in the security situation.
The Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Baba Halilu Dantiye, announced the decision in an audio message sent to our reporter.
Dantiye stated that the government lifted the curfew after reviewing the security situation and determining that it had improved.
“The government has now lifted the curfew completely. People can now go about their businesses in accordance with the law and order,” he said.
The commissioner also mentioned the governor’s acknowledgment of the efforts by security agencies in restoring peace, as well as the contributions of religious leaders and the cooperation of Kano State residents during the curfew.
The curfew was initially imposed in response to violent incidents that occurred after a nationwide protest against economic hardship was hijacked by hoodlums.
The state government first implemented a 24-hour curfew, which was later relaxed in phases—from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., and then from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.—before it was eventually lifted.
The lifting of the curfew allows residents to resume their daily activities.
