Vice-President Kashim Shettima has requested that friends and well-wishers refrain from placing newspaper and television advertisements to celebrate his 58th birthday on September 2.
In a statement released on Thursday, Stanley Nkwocha, the vice-president’s spokesperson, conveyed Shettima’s preference for supporters to channel such funds toward charitable organizations and aid for vulnerable citizens.
Nkwocha noted that while the vice-president deeply appreciates the gestures of goodwill, he intends to use this milestone as an opportunity to “reflect and recommit himself to the principles of responsible and effective governance.”
“On Monday, September 2, 2024, His Excellency, Vice President Kashim Shettima, GCON, will celebrate his 58th birthday. This day offers him a chance to reflect on his journey as a leader and public servant, assessing the progress made in his service to the nation and its people,” the statement reads.
“However, the Vice President does not wish for elaborate celebrations. He has therefore appealed to compatriots, associates, and well-wishers across the country to refrain from placing congratulatory birthday advertisements in newspapers or through paid media channels.
“As this significant day approaches, VP Shettima earnestly requests that family members, friends, and associates who wish to extend their greetings consider donating the intended funds to charity organizations and vulnerable citizens instead.
“This request is in line with the Renewed Hope Administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to addressing developmental challenges, fostering economic growth, and improving the living conditions of Nigerians.
“As he approaches this special moment with a focus on reflection and a renewed commitment to responsible governance for the greater good, the Vice President remains deeply grateful for the support and well-wishes he has consistently received from Nigerians.”
