Former Managing Director of Kano State Radio Corporation and Abubakar Rimi Television (ARTV), Alhaji Adamu Ibrahim Getso, has been laid to rest amid an outpouring of tributes from government officials, colleagues, and associates.
Kano Times reports that the veteran broadcaster was buried at about 7:10 a.m. on Sunday at the palace of the Village Head of Getso in Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State, following funeral prayers attended by a large crowd of mourners.
The late media administrator died on Saturday after a brief illness in his hometown of Getso.
In a condolence message issued by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, described the deceased as a distinguished broadcaster, seasoned administrator, and dedicated public servant.
According to the governor, Getso devoted his life to journalism, public enlightenment, and the promotion of societal values through the media.
“He distinguished himself through honesty, professionalism, and commitment to public service,” Yusuf said.
The governor recalled that the deceased served as Managing Director of the then CTV 67 Television, now ARTV, from 2000 to 2003 before later heading Radio Kano from 2011 to 2015.
He noted that Getso provided exemplary leadership and implemented initiatives that strengthened Radio Kano’s position as one of the leading public broadcasting organisations in Northern Nigeria.
Also paying tribute, veteran broadcaster and former Radio Kano staff member, Zulyadaini Sidi Mustapha Karaye, described the late Getso as “a man of uncommon humility, remarkable tolerance, and exceptional interpersonal skills.”
Karaye, who worked under the deceased at Radio Kano, said one of the lessons he would never forget was Getso’s advice to him: “Never trust praise singers.”
He said the late broadcaster’s legacy would endure through the many lives he touched with his kindness, patience, and mentorship.
Similarly, Rabi Mustapha of the Kano State Ministry of Information, who also worked under the deceased, described him as one of the best bosses she had ever had.
“He was an exceptional leader whose kindness, guidance, and support left a lasting impact on those who worked with him,” she said, while praying for Allah’s mercy and forgiveness upon the deceased.
The death of Adamu Getso has been widely mourned across Kano’s media community, with many remembering him for his professionalism, humility, and contributions to the growth of broadcasting in the state.
