A Kano-based civil society organization, Charity Support and Awareness Initiative (CSAI), has raised concerns about the activities of the 14th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, accusing him of threatening peace and security in the state.
The organization submitted a petition, signed by its Chairman, Aliyu Dalhatu, to the Director of Security at the Department of State Services (DSS) today, urging action to prevent potential violence.
In the petition, CSAI expressed concern over Sanusi’s public appearances in Kano, claiming he has been moving with a large convoy and presenting himself as the Emir of Kano, despite ongoing legal challenges to his reinstatement.
The group described these actions as provocative and a cause of rising tensions in the city.
“His movements on Kano streets with thousands of thugs and unknown armed men carrying lethal weapons pose a serious threat to the safety of lives and property in the state,” the petition read.
CSAI noted public disapproval of Sanusi’s activities, citing instances of stoning and booing by residents during his appearances.
The group warned that continued unrest could escalate into violent confrontations, jeopardizing social order in the state.
The petition called on the DSS to investigate Sanusi’s activities and urged authorities to restrain him from presenting himself as a traditional ruler.
“We believe that prompt and decisive action by your office will help avert any potential crisis and preserve the rule of law in our state,” the petition added.
It should be recalled that Sanusi II was reinstated by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf after the law used by former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje to depose him in 2020 was abolished.
