The presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in the last general elections, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has expressed his willingness to serve as a deputy to Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate in the same elections, under certain conditions.
In a video clip circulating on the X platform, the former Kano State governor, speaking in Hausa, stated that while he is open to the idea of being Obi’s running mate, certain terms must be agreed upon first.
“I’m bigger than Peter Obi politically, I’m his elder brother, I’m a PhD holder, I performed better than him when I was a governor of my state. I’ve no problem with deputising Peter Obi, but only if certain conditions are met,” Kwankwaso said.
He emphasized that both he and Obi are prepared to engage in constructive discussions with the Labour Party leader to reach an agreement ahead of the 2027 elections. “We are willing to engage in discussions, provided that trust is established,” he added.
Peter Obi, who placed third in the last general elections, received approximately 6,101,533 votes. In contrast, Kwankwaso secured victory in 38 of Kano State’s 44 local government areas, earning 1,496,687 votes.
