The Amalgamated Cow Milk Dealers Association of Kano State has called on the Kano State Agro-Pastoral Development Project (KSADP) to expedite the completion of Milk Collection Centres to enhance milk processing and storage across the state.
The association’s chairman, Muhammad Alaramma, made this appeal during an interview at the Kofar Wambai Cow Milk Market, Kano, on Wednesday.
Alaramma emphasized that the completion of the centres would significantly improve milk storage at various selling points statewide. He also urged the KSADP to finalize the cold room project under construction at the market, advocating for it to be equipped with solar-powered energy to ensure milk freshness.
“More than two million liters of milk are sold at this market daily,” Alaramma stated, noting that the milk is sourced from states such as Kaduna, Bauchi, and Plateau. He added, “Daily transactions at the market amount to about N200 million.”
The chairman further highlighted the association’s strength, revealing that it comprises no fewer than 20,000 members, most of whom are young men and women.
He commended the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) for its support through the KSADP, which has provided roofing, interlocking, and a cold room for the market. “Before these interventions, the market was waterlogged and almost inaccessible during the rainy season,” he noted.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that KSADP is currently constructing and equipping Milk Collection Centres in various milk-producing communities across the state. Each centre is designed to include a 550-litre milk storage tank, solar-powered borehole, toilet facilities, solar lighting, and an office.
