Ninety-eight people have been arrested across Kano State following a security sweep launched by the police under a new operation codenamed Kukan Kura.
The Commissioner of Police in Kano, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, disclosed this during a press briefing held at the Bompai Police Headquarters on Thursday. According to him, the arrests were made in connection with 21 major criminal cases recorded across the state.
“These included incidents of armed robbery, kidnapping, drug trafficking, vehicle theft, fraud, and thuggery,” he said.
The police chief explained that the new operation, which began on July 1, is focused on tracking and dealing with crimes such as street violence, banditry, kidnapping along border communities, drug trafficking, and other social problems troubling the state.
He added, “Significant breakthroughs have been made since the launch of the operation on 1st of July, 2025.”
He further said the initiative follows a directive from the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, encouraging police commands across the country to adopt more community-focused approaches to tackling crime.
CP Bakori said the suspects were arrested in targeted raids, particularly in neighborhoods known for high crime rates. Items recovered during the operations included weapons and other materials believed to be linked to criminal activity.
Among the recovered items were six stolen vehicles, eight tricycles, ten motorcycles, thirteen mobile phones, five motor batteries, and three spare tyres.
Officers also seized 42 tubes of red solution, 35 parcels and 1,123 wraps of suspected cannabis, 86 bottles of a deadly cocktail known as “suck and die,” 30 sachets and 43 pieces of Exol tablets, as well as 10 sachets and 53 pieces of diazepam tablets.
Weapons such as sixteen cutlasses, ninety-eight knives, and even $10,000 in fake U.S. currency were also recovered.
CP Bakori urged residents to continue cooperating with the police, stating that the Command is determined to protect lives and property in all parts of the state.
