Former Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government may be planning to arrest him.
El-Rufai, who is now a chieftain of the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC), made the allegation during an interview with BBC Hausa on Wednesday.
The former governor also claimed that political pressure is being mounted on some politicians to either defect to the ruling APC or remain in the party.
According to him, although he has not been arrested, some of his associates have already been detained.
“Four people we worked with in Kaduna have been arrested, so it’s only a matter of time before they come for me too,” El-Rufai said.
The former governor has, in recent times, intensified his criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s administration and the APC, the party under which he served as governor of Kaduna State for eight years.
His comments come amid the arrest and ongoing trial of former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, who is currently in custody.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has accused Malami of offences including abuse of office and money laundering.
Authorities later re-arrested him over alleged involvement in terrorism financing.
Malami, who is considered a key opposition figure against President Tinubu, has denied the allegations, describing them as a political witch-hunt following his defection from the APC to the ADC.
