A political group, the Southern Political Progressives Amalgamation Forum, has urged former Vice President Atiku Abubakar not to pick former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election.
The group, in a statement signed by its Convener, Anga Fidelis, claimed Amaechi no longer commands political influence in Rivers State and would be unable to attract votes across the southern region.
Fidelis alleged that Amaechi could not win his ward or Ikwerre Local Government Area, questioning his ability to deliver votes for the African Democratic Congress, ADC.
“As at today, Amaechi is a political liability. When you can’t deliver your ward, how do you deliver your LGA and ultimately the state?” he said.
The group also accused Amaechi of playing a key role in the defeat of former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015, claiming many people in the Niger Delta had not forgiven him.
It warned Atiku against choosing Amaechi as his running mate, insisting such a decision could hurt the party’s chances in the 2027 general election.
“The mission remains Tinubu must go. Atiku should be careful not to turn his likely victory to Tinubu’s advantage by making Amaechi his running mate,” the statement added.
