The Leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has cautioned the leadership of the All Progressives Congress against celebrating the recent influx of defectors into the ruling party.
In a statement released on Friday by his media aide, Osho Oluwatosin, the cleric warned that those jumping ship to the APC harbor hidden agendas that could ultimately lead to the party’s friction or collapse.
According to Ayodele, the ruling party should withhold its celebrations until the conclusion of the general elections, noting that the polls would serve as a reality check for the political class.
“Many people decamping to the APC are just wasting their time; it just shows they are not capable of making their party better. They are the ones who will cause problems in the party. The APC shouldn’t rejoice till after the election because the presidential election will teach a lot of lessons,” the statement read.
‘Election won’t be won by numbers’
The prophet further asserted that the act of defecting to the ruling party would not guarantee electoral success for the politicians involved. He maintained that several high-profile defectors would still face defeat in their respective states despite their alignment with the center.
Emphasizing that the upcoming polls would deviate from traditional political patterns, Ayodele noted, “Some of the decampees will fail in their states, lessons will be learnt because it is not going to be a usual thing. The election won’t be won by the number of decampees.”
The cleric’s warning comes amid a wave of cross-carpeting across the country, as politicians reposition themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
