A popular Islamic scholar, Dr. Abdulmuddalib Muhammad Auwal, has joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Zamfara State and declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election.
Auwal formally registered with the party on Sunday and was received by ADC leaders, stakeholders, and a large number of supporters in Tudun Wada Ward, Gusau Local Government Area.
Speaking after his registration, the scholar said his decision to join the ADC was informed by the party’s ideology and manifesto, which he said align with his vision for Zamfara.
“I have a personal desire to contribute to ensuring good governance by tackling security challenges and addressing poverty and vulnerability in Zamfara,” he said.
“I have developed blueprints and strategic plans covering education, healthcare, insecurity, poverty reduction, as well as women and youth empowerment.”
Auwal stressed that insecurity in the state was largely driven by poverty, injustice, and poor governance.
“Poverty and injustice are the main reasons for the ongoing security challenges in Zamfara,” he stated.
He added, “The lingering insecurity in the state is also a result of poor governance. Injustice and neglect by some leaders have worsened the situation, turning Zamfara into a hotspot for banditry.”
The governorship aspirant, however, expressed optimism that the state could overcome its challenges with the right policies and leadership.
“In Zamfara, we have enormous potential to address insecurity and poverty. If given the mandate, we will change the fortunes of the state,” he said.
On his plans, Auwal said he would focus on agriculture, job creation, and youth empowerment to reduce crime and boost economic growth.
“We will create more job opportunities through agriculture and entrepreneurship development, so our youths can have better alternatives to criminal activities,” he said.
“Zamfara is blessed with vast agricultural potential. Our motto is ‘Farming is Our Pride’, but poor governance has hindered its development.”
He further pledged to invest in irrigation farming and infrastructure across the state.
“In each of the 14 local government areas, I plan to construct dams to support irrigation and enhance food security,” he added.
Auwal also said his administration would prioritise vocational training and entrepreneurship to transform unemployed youths into job creators.
“We want our people to become job providers, not job seekers,” he said.
In their separate remarks, ADC leaders in Tudun Wada Ward and Gusau LGA welcomed Auwal into the party and assured him of their support.
They also pledged to provide an enabling environment for him and his supporters ahead of the 2027 elections.
