A 30-year-old aspirant seeking to represent Sabon Gari Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Mahmud Sadis Buba, has attracted widespread attention online following his screening by the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Kaduna State.
Buba, popularly known as Abin Al-Ajabin Zazzau, became a trending topic after a video showing his interaction with APC screening officials surfaced on social media on Sunday.
In the video, the aspirant, dressed in traditional attire, responded to questions concerning his age, educational background and reasons for contesting the election.
His youthful appearance, however, sparked reactions among Nigerians online, with many expressing surprise that he had met the constitutional minimum age of 30 required to contest for the House of Representatives.
During the screening exercise, Buba told the panel that he is 30 years old and the eldest among nine children.
Explaining the reason behind his ambition, he said, “Help to pass the screening, having passed the requirements, because people called me to serve them, and I will serve. I am not doing this for myself.”
He also confirmed that he is contesting the APC ticket against the incumbent lawmaker representing the constituency.
When asked why he decided to challenge the serving representative, Buba responded, “It is not from me. It is from the people.”
Buba currently serves as chairman of the ‘Tinubu–Uba Sani Agenda ’27’ support group and recently purchased the party’s expression of interest and nomination forms.
The development has generated mixed reactions on social media. While some users commended his confidence and composure during the screening, others criticised some of the questions posed to him, describing them as dismissive and overly focused on his youthful appearance.
Supporters of the aspirant have described him as a grassroots politician, noting that his emergence reflects growing youth participation in Nigeria’s political process.
Buba, who holds a NECO certificate, has also reignited discussions on age, merit and inclusiveness in Nigeria’s political space.
