The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disclosed plans to deploy about 1.4 million members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) for the 2027 general elections nationwide.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, made this known during a courtesy visit to the NYSC Director-General, Brig.-Gen. Olakunle Nafiu, in Abuja.
Amupitan said corps members would play critical roles in the electoral process, particularly in carrying out various duties during the conduct of the polls.
He further revealed that approximately 53,000 corps members would be deployed for the forthcoming governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun states, as well as bye-elections scheduled to hold in Nasarawa, Enugu, Rivers, Ondo, Kebbi and Kano states.
According to him, adequate welfare packages and proper training would be provided to ensure the effective participation of corps members in the elections.
“As we approach the elections, adequate welfare and proper training will be provided for all corps members involved in the electoral process,” he said.
In his remarks, the NYSC Director-General commended the longstanding collaboration between the two agencies and assured that corps members would remain neutral while discharging their electoral responsibilities.
Nafiu added that the scheme would continue to support INEC’s efforts toward credible, peaceful and transparent elections across the country.
