The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, for the 2027 election, Peter Obi, has described the Federal High Court judgment restraining the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, from recognising the party as “a hurdle, not a stop sign.”
A Federal High Court in Lokoja, Kogi State, had on Friday ordered INEC not to recognise the NDC as a political party pending the determination of legal issues surrounding its registration.
Reacting in a statement issued by Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR) spokesman, Idris Zekeri, Obi urged supporters to remain calm, saying his legal team was already reviewing the judgment.
“We have received the news of today’s ruling and our legal teams are thoroughly reviewing the judgment to initiate immediate corrective and appellate measures,” the statement said.
Obi maintained that the coalition anticipated legal challenges in its bid to provide an alternative political platform for Nigerians.
“Today’s ruling is a hurdle, not a stop sign. Our commitment to providing a transparent, legitimate and formidable alternative for Nigerians remains unshakeable. Do not be discouraged; the vehicle may face a temporary breakdown, but our destination remains non-negotiable,” he added.
