The newly affirmed candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for Kano North Senatorial District, Nasiru Sule Garo, has promised to provide better representation than the incumbent senator, Barau Jibrin, if elected in 2027.
Garo, a former member of the House of Representatives, made the pledge in an interview after his affirmation as the party’s candidate in Bichi.
He said his 12 years in the House of Representatives and three years as a commissioner had given him the experience required to effectively represent the people of the district.
“When you look at qualification, I have been a member of the House of Representatives for 12 years, and apart from that, I have been a commissioner in this government for three years.
“We are ready and willing. People have tested us. They have seen the kind of people we are, and we have better policies. Therefore, we are a better choice, and we know that we will do better,” he said.
Garo said he would prioritise insecurity, economic hardship, infrastructure and policies affecting the welfare of constituents.
“As a legislator, my job is to make sure that I am checkmating the activities of the executive. So when I get into office as a senator, I will have a voice, and we are not going to keep quiet,” he said.
He said he would also demand stronger action from the Federal Government and security agencies to address insecurity affecting communities in Kano North.
Garo’s affirmation followed the party’s decision to substitute Engineer Sunusi Danbatta with him as its candidate for the 2027 election.
He was affirmed at the party’s senatorial office in Bichi by the state chairman, Usaini Mai Riga, who was represented by the Zonal Vice Chairman, Bello Yandadi.
