The Media Office of the Deputy President of the Senate, Sen. Barau I. Jibrin, has denied reports that beneficiaries of his foundation’s undergraduate scholarship programme at the Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA) study centres in Kano North are being owed allowances.
Ismail Mudashir, Special Adviser to the Deputy President of the Senate on Media and Publicity, described the report as “false and misleading” and the handiwork of mischief makers.
Mudashir said the Barau I. Jibrin Foundation had awarded scholarships to 810 indigent students to pursue degree programmes through six FUDMA study centres in Kano North Senatorial District.
He explained that in June, when the university invited the beneficiaries to its main campus in Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State, for four-week basic training on distance learning, each student received a one-off allowance of N50,000.
According to him, the beneficiaries were also transported to the university for the training.
“For the avoidance of doubt, there was never any promise of a monthly stipend of N50,000 to the beneficiaries,” Mudashir said.
He added that the scholarship covered registration fees for all beneficiaries from Level One to the completion of their respective programmes.
Mudashir urged the beneficiaries to remain focused on their studies and disregard the publication, which he said was intended to distract them and undermine the scholarship programme.
He reaffirmed the foundation’s commitment to supporting indigent students and expanding access to quality education in Kano North and beyond.
