Council chairman survives with injuries as seven die in Jigawa auto crash

Seven persons have been confirmed dead following a fatal road accident along the Malam Madori–Hadejia Road in Jigawa State.

Kano Times gathered that the crash occurred around 9:45 p.m. on Monday at Kashin Dila Junction, involving a Toyota Starlet and a black Mercedes-Benz GLK.

An eyewitness said the Toyota Starlet, driven by Adamu Dakido, was conveying passengers from Hadejia to Malam Madori when it collided head-on with the GLK vehicle.

“The GLK was carrying the Chairman of Kafin Hausa Local Government Area and his driver, who were travelling from Gumel to Kafin Hausa at the time of the crash,” the witness said.

Another source disclosed that six occupants of the Toyota Starlet died instantly due to the impact of the collision.

“The driver of the Mercedes-Benz GLK also reportedly died at the scene,” the source added.

The Chairman of Kafin Hausa Local Government Area survived the accident but sustained varying degrees of injuries and was rushed to a hospital for treatment.

Police operatives were said to have responded promptly, evacuating the injured chairman and the bodies of the deceased to the General Hospital, Hadejia.

A source within the Jigawa State Police Command confirmed the incident, noting that investigation into the cause of the crash has commenced.

“The police have commenced investigation into the cause of the accident. Our officers were on ground to evacuate the victims and secure the scene,” the source said.
