The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening international cooperation, trade relations and institutional partnerships through sustained engagement with the diplomatic community.
The Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Mr Adewale Adeniyi, made this known during a high-level diplomatic cocktail reception hosted by the service on June 3 in Abuja.
The event, held at the rooftop of the NCS Headquarters in Maitama, brought together ambassadors, high commissioners, heads of missions and senior government officials.
Also in attendance were the Chief of the Air Staff, the Inspector-General of Police, members of the Customs Management Team and senior officials from key security and government institutions.
Speaking at the event, Adeniyi expressed appreciation to international partners for their continued support in strengthening bilateral relations and advancing global trade cooperation with Nigeria.
“We recognize and appreciate your contributions to strengthening diplomatic and trade relations. The Service remains committed to providing the support and services required for diplomatic missions to operate effectively in Nigeria,” he said.
The CGC said the NCS had continued to expand its global presence through structured collaboration frameworks with more than 20 customs administrations across the world.
According to him, the partnerships focus on knowledge exchange, capacity development and operational synergy aimed at improving trade facilitation and border management.
Adeniyi noted that sustained collaboration among customs administrations, diplomatic missions and security agencies remained essential to achieving efficient border security, enhanced revenue generation and improved economic competitiveness.
He said modern customs administration now operated within a highly interconnected global system that required continuous engagement, trust-building and shared responsibility among international partners.
The CGC added that such collaboration was necessary to address emerging challenges in trade, security and compliance management.
“Platforms such as the diplomatic reception provide valuable opportunities for dialogue, relationship building, and the exploration of new areas of cooperation that will further strengthen Nigeria’s trade and diplomatic architecture,” he said.
The event featured networking sessions and goodwill messages from participants.
Senior government officials and diplomatic representatives commended the NCS for its efforts in fostering stronger institutional ties and promoting an enabling environment for international collaboration.
The reception formed part of ongoing efforts by the service to deepen international partnerships and support Nigeria’s trade and economic development objectives.
