The Gombe State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old man, Musa Adamu, for allegedly attacking his girlfriend with a hammer, attempting to strangle her, and stealing N100,000 from her in Gombe State.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, saying the suspect was arrested following a complaint lodged by the victim at the Pantami Divisional Police Headquarters.
According to Abdullahi, the victim reported that the incident occurred at about 2:00 a.m. when the suspect allegedly gained unlawful access to her residence by scaling the fence and forcefully breaking into her room.
“The victim reported that at about 2:00 a.m., the suspect unlawfully gained access to her residence by scaling the fence and forcefully breaking into her room,” the statement read.
Abdullahi said police operatives swiftly responded to the complaint and evacuated the injured victim to a hospital for treatment.
“Upon receipt of the complaint, police operatives promptly visited the scene, while the victim was evacuated to a hospital for medical attention, where she was treated and later discharged,” he said.
The police spokesperson added that officers recovered an iron hammer suspected to have been stained with blood and a USB cable believed to have been used during the attack.
He further revealed that preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect had earlier demanded money from the victim, a businesswoman, but she declined his request.
According to the command, the suspect remains in police custody while investigations continue and will be charged in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
Abdullahi reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, urging residents to report suspicious persons and criminal activities to the nearest police station.
