The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Tijani, has assured residents that the Shoe Materials Market in Mushin is safe following a suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosion that caused panic in the area.
Speaking to journalists at the scene on Monday, Tijani said police operatives, including the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit, were immediately deployed after reports of the explosion.
According to him, preliminary investigations revealed that the device had been planted beneath the passenger side of a vehicle and detonated when the vehicle’s engine was started.
The police commissioner disclosed that one person sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital, adding that the victim is in stable condition.
He said EOD experts conducted a thorough sweep of the area and found no additional explosive devices.
Tijani further revealed that remnants of the device had been recovered for forensic analysis, while investigations into the incident are ongoing.
He urged residents to remain calm and disregard rumours of widespread insecurity, assuring them of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
