The Nigerian Air Force, NAF, has intensified its counter-terrorism campaign in the North-East, destroying a terrorist enclave and neutralising several insurgents during fresh precision airstrikes in Borno State.
The operation, conducted by the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI, targeted a terrorist hideout at Yaganari in the Gezuwa general area on Friday, following intelligence reports of renewed terrorist activities in the location.
The Director of Public Relations and Information, Headquarters Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Saturday.
According to Ejodame, the air mission was launched after credible intelligence revealed the concentration of terrorist fighters and logistics facilities within the area.
He said intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions confirmed the location of terrorist structures and logistics hubs before the targets were engaged in a series of precision airstrikes.
“The airstrikes destroyed the identified terrorist infrastructure and neutralised several fighters, significantly disrupting their ability to regroup and sustain operations,” the statement said.
The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, commended the personnel involved in the operation, describing the mission as another demonstration of the NAF’s resolve to sustain pressure on terrorist groups.
“The Nigerian Air Force will continue to deliver decisive air power in concert with surface forces to hunt down, disrupt and destroy terrorist elements wherever they may seek refuge. We remain committed to ensuring that terrorists have no safe haven and no opportunity to recover their capabilities,” Aneke said.
He reaffirmed the Armed Forces of Nigeria’s commitment to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist groups, stressing that the military remains focused on consolidating the gains recorded in the ongoing counter-terrorism campaign.
