Vice President Kashim Shettima has described the death of the Emir of Gumel, Alhaji Dr Ahmed Muhammad Sani II, as a great loss to Jigawa and Nigeria.
Shettima stated this on Friday in Gumel, Jigawa, when he paid a condolence visit to the family of the deceased and the Gumel Emirate.
He conveyed the condolences of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Government to the family, the emirate and the people of Jigawa State.
The vice president said the late emir was among traditional rulers who devoted many years to promoting peace, education, community development and national unity.
According to him, the deceased will be remembered for his long reign, wisdom, commitment to peace and dedication to the welfare of his people.
“He was a father, unifier and adviser whose wisdom contributed immensely to the service of his community and the nation for nearly half a century,” Shettima said.
He said that despite ruling through periods of significant political and social changes in Nigeria, the late emir remained committed to promoting peace, education, Islamic learning and peaceful coexistence.
Shettima added that President Tinubu held the late emir in high esteem, particularly for his contributions to peacebuilding and community development.
The 16th Emir of Gumel died in Cairo, Egypt, on Sept. 3, 2026, after nearly 46 years on the throne.
He ascended the throne on Dec. 16, 1980.
Shettima prayed that Allah would forgive the deceased’s shortcomings, accept his good deeds and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus.
He also prayed for strength and fortitude for the family, Gumel Emirate and the people of Jigawa State to bear the loss.
