The Kano State Government has declared “total war” against perpetrators of violence and abuse against women, children and persons with special needs in the state.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs, Children and Persons with Special Needs, Amb. Amina Abdullahi Sani, made the declaration during a sympathy visit to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Kano.
She visited Salamatu Abubakar, a resident of Tsanyawa Local Government Area, who was allegedly attacked with hot water by her co-wife, Salima Sani, following a disagreement.
Sani warned that the state government would take decisive legal action against anyone found culpable of abusing vulnerable persons.
“Let this serve as a strong warning to perpetrators of violence against women, children and persons with special needs.
“Under the leadership of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kano State, this administration will not tolerate such wickedness in our society.
“We will take serious and decisive legal action against anyone found culpable. Kano State must be safe for women and children,” she said.
The commissioner said Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf was aware of the incident and had directed the ministry to ensure justice for the victim and provide necessary care and support.
She donated food items and other essentials to Salamatu, alongside N100,000 cash, and directed that the ministry would take full responsibility for her medical bills until she recovered.
The commissioner urged residents to report cases of abuse to relevant authorities, assuring that the ministry remained committed to protecting vulnerable persons in the state.
