The Kano State Government has awarded a multi-million-naira contract for the construction of an Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) to improve emergency response coordination across the state.
The Executive Secretary, State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Isyaku Kubarachi, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Kano on Thursday.
He said the centre, located at the Government House, would enhance the collection, analysis and management of emergency information for timely decision-making.
“A contract has been awarded for the construction of an Emergency Operation Centre and work has already commenced.
“The centre will address the challenges of collecting and analysing data before making decisions that protect lives and property,” he said.
Kubarachi said the facility would provide real-time information on emergencies across the state’s 44 Local Government Areas and coordinate the deployment of relief materials, equipment and personnel.
He said the centre would also serve as a central command hub for coordinating agencies and managing resources during disasters.
“Lagos is the only state in the country that has an EOC and Kano will have a similar facility for tracking and sending needed supplies, equipment and workers to the field during emergencies,” he said.
The SEMA executive secretary added that the centre would be equipped with modern facilities and staffed by trained personnel.
He said the state government also planned to establish similar centres in each of the three senatorial zones.
