The Kano State Government has pledged to consider Sudan’s request to temporarily use Nasarawa Hospital as the teaching hospital for El-Razi University, as well as a proposal for land to build a Sudanese hospital and community office in the state.
Deputy Governor Murtala Sule Garo gave the assurance while receiving the Sudanese Ambassador to Nigeria, Sheikh Mohammed Abdelaal Haroon, during a courtesy visit to Kano on behalf of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
Garo said the request for the temporary use of Nasarawa Hospital would be forwarded to Governor Yusuf for consideration after consultations with relevant authorities, adding that the proposal for land allocation would also be given due consideration.
“The request for the temporary use of Nasarawa Hospital will be presented to His Excellency, the Governor, for consideration after the necessary professional advice. Likewise, the request for land to establish a Sudanese hospital and community office in Kano will receive the attention it deserves,” he said.
The deputy governor also expressed the Kano State Government’s sympathy with the people and government of Sudan over the ongoing conflict in the country, describing the humanitarian crisis as unfortunate.
He prayed for the restoration of peace, stability and unity in Sudan, noting that Kano and Sudan have maintained strong historical ties through religion, trade, education and culture.
According to him, the state remains committed to expanding cooperation with Sudan in critical sectors, including healthcare, education, agriculture, commerce and cultural exchange.
Garo further commended Ambassador Haroon for visiting Kano to engage with Sudanese citizens residing in the state, saying the move reflected the embassy’s commitment to the welfare of its nationals.
He also appreciated the Sudanese government for offering 15 scholarships to students from Kano and expressed hope that more opportunities would become available after peace is restored in Sudan.
Speaking earlier, Ambassador Haroon described the relationship between Nigeria and Sudan as cordial and longstanding, noting that Kano occupies a strategic position in strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
He lamented the impact of the conflict in Sudan, saying thousands of people had been displaced, many lives lost and properties destroyed.
The envoy appealed to the Kano State Government to approve the temporary use of Nasarawa Hospital by El-Razi University and allocate land for the proposed Sudanese hospital and community office.
Haroon said the projects would enhance collaboration between Sudan and Kano, particularly in the areas of healthcare and education, while further strengthening the longstanding relationship between both sides.
