The Deputy President of the Senate, Sen. Barau I. Jibrin, has unveiled the All Progressives Congress (APC) zonal campaign council for Kano North Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 Presidential and National Assembly elections.
The development was contained in a statement signed by Ismail Mudashir, Special Adviser to the Deputy President of the Senate on Media and Publicity, and made available to newsmen.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the Presidential and National Assembly elections for Jan. 16, 2027.
According to the statement, Engr. Rabiu Sulaiman Bichi, Managing Director of the Hadeja Jama’are River Basin Development Authority and former Secretary to the Kano State Government, will chair the campaign council.
Dr Ali Haruna Makoda, Kano State Commissioner of Education, will serve as Deputy Chairman, while Surveyor Nadu Yahaya, Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal Polytechnic Bauchi and former Surveyor General of the Federation, will serve as Secretary.
The statement named Dr Kabiru Ado Zakirai, Hon. Ahmed Haruna Bichi and Hon. Idris Unguwar Rimi as Deputy Secretaries I, II and III, respectively.
A former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Farouk Lawan, will serve as Vice Chairman I, while Hon. Saidu Garba Getso and Hon. Badamasi Ayuba will serve as Vice Chairmen II and III, respectively.
Alhaji Yusuf Tumfafi, described in the statement as a veteran grassroots mobiliser, will serve as Director-General of the campaign council.
Hon. Yusuf Yusuf Tabuka, Hon. Auwalu Ibrahim Danzabuwa, Hon. Ali Ado Bagwai and Hon. Ali Gumawa were appointed Deputy Director-Generals I, II, III and IV, respectively.
The council also comprises campaign committees for the 13 Local Government Areas in the senatorial district.
They are Shanono, Bagwai, Gwarzo, Kabo, Rimin Gado, Tofa, Dawakin Tofa, Bichi, Ghari, Tsanyawa, Dambatta, Makoda and Gabasawa.
The statement said the zonal campaign committee would comprise serving and former governors and deputy governors, senators and members of the House of Representatives from the zone.
It also includes APC candidates for the House of Representatives and Kano State House of Assembly from the zone, serving and former elected officials at state and national levels, APC state and zonal executives, local government chairmen and APC local government and caucus chairmen.
Other members include serving and former federal and state appointees from the zone.
According to the statement, the local government campaign committees will comprise political stakeholders and party officials from the respective local government areas, including serving and former elected officials, former lawmakers, former local government chairmen and vice chairmen, former commissioners and advisers.
It added that serving and former council secretaries, councillors, supervisory councillors, APC executives, ward chairmen and secretaries, caucus and elders committee members, among others, would also serve on the committees.
The ward campaign committees will comprise members of the zonal and local government campaign committees from the respective wards, as well as serving and former councillors, supervisory councillors, ward caucus members and present and past APC ward executives.
Sen. Barau charged members of the campaign council to take the APC campaign “to every nook and cranny” of the Kano North Senatorial District and mobilise massive support for all APC candidates.
He said the achievements of the administration “speak for themselves”, citing interventions across critical sectors which, according to him, had positively impacted the lives of constituents.
Barau urged members of the campaign council to take the message of the administration’s achievements to the people and secure overwhelming support for the APC at the polls.
