The Kano State Taskforce on Security, Peace, and Youth Rehabilitation has expressed readiness to work with security agencies in the state to enhance efforts in securing lives and properties.
Chairman of the task force, who also serves as the Commissioner for Science, Technology, and Innovation, Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar Mata, stated this while leading members of the task force on visits to security agencies and other stakeholders in Kano.
The delegation visited the headquarters of the Department of State Services (DSS), the Commissioner of Police, and the office of the Chief Judge of Kano State to seek support for the committee’s mandate.
Speaking after a meeting with the DSS State Director, Dr. Kofar Mata emphasized the need for collaboration. “We are here to seek the support of the DSS in ensuring security and stability in Kano. Their expertise and intelligence gathering are crucial to our mission,” he said.
At the police headquarters, Dr. Kofar Mata met with Commissioner of Police Salman Dogo Garba, who was recently promoted to Assistant Inspector General (AIG). He stated, “We are here on a courtesy visit to formally introduce the committee to you and to seek your support, as we believe that you are the engine room when it comes to internal security.”
The Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, commended the police for their role. “I must commend you for your tireless effort to ensure the security of lives and properties. We recall how this command, under the then CP Hussaini Gumel, initiated a program for repentant thugs, which yielded positive results,” he said.
He also spoke on youth development, stating, “Youth development through different programs and policies is among the key priorities of Kano State Government under the leadership of Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf.”
In response, AIG Salman Dogo Garba spoke on the role of community involvement in security matters. “Internal security is primarily the responsibility of the police, with support from other security agencies, but it has now become the duty of all citizens through the community policing initiative,” he said.
He described the initiative as “a welcome development” and assured the task force of continued police support.
The Kano State Taskforce on Security includes representatives from the Ministry of Internal Security, the Police, DSS, Civil Defence, Road Safety, Immigration, and other agencies.
Meanwhile, the committee also held closed-door meetings with the DSS State Director and the Chief Judge of Kano State to discuss security strategies and collaborations.
