Tension gripped Doka Avong community in Kufana District of Kajuru Local Government Area, Kaduna State, after gunmen launched a midnight attack and abducted the wife and son of the village head.
The incident occurred around 1:00am on Saturday, June 14, 2025, when heavily armed men stormed the residence of the Village Head, targeting his family.
The attackers whisked away 38-year-old Deborah Jonah and her 14-year-old son, Maxwell Jonah, plunging the community into fear and uncertainty.
Confirming the incident in a formal letter addressed to the Agom of Kufana Chiefdom, Mr. Stephen Maikori, Overseer of Kufana District, described the situation as dire.
“This unfortunate event has caused widespread fear and anxiety within the community,” Maikori wrote. “In light of the above, I respectfully call for the urgent intervention of relevant security agencies to enhance surveillance and fortify security in and around Doka Avong and the entire Kufana District.”
He added that there was a pressing need for “prompt and decisive action” to prevent further loss of lives and property and to restore confidence among the people.
Kajuru has remained one of the most volatile parts of Kaduna State, with communities suffering repeated attacks from armed groups over the years. The latest abduction has deepened residents’ concerns over growing insecurity in the region.
